- Overview
Ötztal is actually the name of the valley (Ötz valley). The two main resorts at the south end of the valley are Sölden and Obergurgl. There higher altitude and access to glaciers means they are quite reliable for snow cover.
Sölden is a very international resort and for some reason very popular with eastern Europeans especially Poles, Czechs and Russians. It has a couple of winter areas - Giggijoch and Gaislachkogel, then there are the glaciers - Rettenbach & Tiefenbach. World cup races are often held on the Rettenbach glacier in October.
Obergurgl is also very international but with a slightly different mix, more English. Consists of two main areas Hochgurgl and Obergurgl linked by a gondola.
