Overview

Iwate Kogen is a small ski area close to Shizukuishi and Morioka. There is no onsite accomodation so is a day trip option from those places. More of a family resort.

Location

Iwate prefecture. Town of Shizukuishi nearby and city of Morioka is about an 50 mins away by bus or probably a 30 min drive.

A good family resort with special kids areas and free for 12 and under.

Getting There

From Tokyo it is about 3 hours on the Shinkansen to Morioka. These usually operate about twice an hour.

Buses then leave from bus bay no. 10 outside the main exit (east side) of Morioka station. These buses however are not direct services and take almost an hour. There are around 5 services a day. Cost one way is Y1060 (2009). The station is not the first stop and Iwate Kogen is not the last stop. If you were to drive it would probably be a 30 min trip.

You can get up to date info on on the bus as well as the ski area from the information centre at the southern end of Morioka station.

Alternatively you could also drive from Morioka or Shizukuishi.
