Talk:Non resort rope tows

Have you looked at Cabramurra in NSW for non-resort tows. Brumby Jack knows about it.

Thanks Ian. I'm gradually adding to the list and putting in a bit more detail for each tow, but I don't have access to many resources on the Kiandra/Cabramurra/Selwyn area. Apart from these, I suspect the list is now complete, but anyone who knows more information is very welcome to add it. I will add a few paragraphs on the Mt Northcote Tow in the next month or so. If I've got plenty of time, I may extend the coverage to include early tows at the resorts. Bogong.
I just know it exists - I have no detail.

The tow operated from the early 70s as suggested. During the late 70s or early 80s some components were obtained from Baw Baw after decommissioning of one or more tows there. The main component used was I believe the bull wheel (the large wheel at the bottom of the hill which reverses the direction of the rope and therefore carries considerable load) which replaced the original one. I think there were also a number of nutcrackers and belts obtained as well.
My first trip up there was in 1979 and I believe the bull wheel replacement had been done for that season.
Thanks Trevor K, that makes a lot of sense. As I think I've said, while the original Rover tow can't be from Baw Baw, I keep on hearing rumours that it is. But your information on components that were added later explains the strength of the rumours.
By the way, does anyone know anything at all about the Tallangatta Ski Club tow on Mt Wills?
Any information would be appreciated, when it opened, when it last ran, how long it was, who built it, any minor trivia or even a photo of it in action. :)
